On May 7, 2025, within the framework of the 58th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the delegation of Tajikistan, headed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the country, Mr. Hokim Kholiqzoda, held a meeting with the President of the ADB, Mr. Masato Kanda.
During the meeting, the parties discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the ADB, with a particular focus on supporting investment projects in the energy sector, especially the continued construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant.
President of the Asian Development Bank, Masato Kanda, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to provide USD 500 million to support the implementation of this nationally significant project.
It was noted that the timely implementation of the Rogun HPP project would contribute to achieving shared goals in providing affordable and green electricity, sustainable water management, reducing the risks of floods and droughts, and lowering carbon emissions. It will also pave the way for accelerated digitalization, industrialization, and the creation of thousands of new workplaces.
The parties also agreed to include the financing of new priority investment projects in energy, transport, tourism, education, healthcare, agriculture, and environmental protection taking into account the digitalization of these sectors in the upcoming Tajikistan ADB Country Partnership Strategy for 2026–2030.
It should be noted that the Asian Development Bank is one of Tajikistan’s key development partners. Since 1998, the Bank has financed over 200 projects worth more than USD 2.7 billion. Currently, ADB supports 19 projects in the country with a total value exceeding USD 1 billion.
