From June 23 to 27, the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) was held in Beijing, People's Republic of China. Sultоn Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan and Governor from the Republic of Tajikistan to the Bank, participated in the meeting.
On June 23, within the framework of the Annual Meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors, a meeting was held between the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan, Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, and the Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management, Sultоn Rahimzoda, with Konstantin Limitovskiy, Vice President of the AIIB.
During this meeting, a grant agreement was signed between the parties in the amount of USD 2.04 million to support social activities within the framework of the "Obigarm–Nurobod Road Construction" project.
On June 26, at the session of the AIIB Board of Governors, Sultjn Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management and Tajik Governor at the AIIB, was elected as Vice Chair of the Bank’s Annual Meeting. This significant event reflects the growing international standing of the Republic of Tajikistan and its continued efforts to enhance investment cooperation.
Sulton Rahimzoda also participated in and spoke at several thematic sessions of the AIIB Annual Meeting, including panel discussions on the topics: “Promoting High-Quality Cross-Border Infrastructure: Experiences and Lessons from International Financial Institutions” and “Governors’ Business Roundtable”, where he served as a panelist (speaker).
It should be noted that AIIB’s financing is directed toward key sectors of the national economy, particularly energy and transportation, contributing to sustainable development and improvement of the country’s infrastructure.
As of May 1, 2025, AIIB has allocated USD 410.5 million to the Republic of Tajikistan for the implementation of four investment projects. Notably, in December 2024, the AIIB provided a loan of USD 270 million for the construction of the Rogun HPP.
