Through the consistent and farsighted efforts of the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honorable Kassym-Jomart Kemelovich Tokayev, the bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan has developed over many years in the spirit of mutual trust, respect, and constructive dialogue, reaching the level of strategic partnership and establishing a stable and reliable foundation for expanding comprehensive cooperation in the fields of trade and economy, investment, culture, and humanitarian affairs.
On August 8 of this year, in the city of Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, under the chairmanship of the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Khaliqzoda Hokim Hikmatullo, and the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Sklyar Roman Vasilevich, with the participation of delegations from both sides, was held the 19th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The meeting reviewed the current status and prospects for the development of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan in the fields of economy and trade, industry, investment and banking activities, transport, water resources and energy, agriculture, customs, education and science, culture, healthcare, tourism, youth and sports, migration and employment, ecology, and environmental protection.
The parties expressed their interest in further expanding direct trade and economic relations among business entities, strengthening investment cooperation, actively supporting entrepreneurial and investor initiatives, and establishing joint industrial enterprises on the territories of both countries. Special attention was paid to developing regional cooperation, creating stable and long-term cooperation frameworks and economic partnerships, forming modern investment platforms, digitizing relations, as well as expanding logistics and infrastructure capabilities.
During the meeting, the co-chairs of the Commission issued instructions to the heads and representatives of state bodies of both sides to strengthen bilateral trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
It is noteworthy that in 2024, the volume of mutual trade between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to 1.3 billion US dollars, exceeding the 2023 figure by 144.5 million US dollars or 12.6%. Kazakhstan remains among the top three main trading partners of Tajikistan.
In 2024, the total volume of investment inflows from Kazakhstan to Tajikistan amounted to 217.1 million US dollars, which is 5.5 million US dollars or 2.5% higher compared to 2023. Direct investments accounted for 15.5 million US dollars, which is 3.5 million US dollars or approximately 30% higher than the 2023 indicator.
These positive trends are the result of comprehensive joint efforts, including the implementation of decisions of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, as well as active interaction between the business communities of the two countries.
Following the meeting, the parties signed the protocol of the 19th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
