Tajikistan to Implement Its First 500 MW Solar Power Project

The Republic of Tajikistan is set to implement its first large-scale solar energy project with a total installed capacity of 500 MW, marking a new milestone in the development of green energy and modern energy infrastructure in the country.

On January 13, 2026, an Investment Agreement was signed between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and Ayon Energy LLC, providing for the construction and commissioning of two major photovoltaic power plants, namely:

      • a 250 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Asht district,
      • a 250 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Jayhun district.

It is important to emphasize that this solar power project is being implemented for the first time in the history of Tajikistan at such a large installed capacity, serving as a clear example of the country’s transition toward the use of alternative and renewable energy sources.

The project is being implemented in line with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, outlined in the Address to the Majlisi Oli, as well as within the framework of state measures aimed at promoting green energy development.

The solar power plants will contribute to strengthening the country’s energy independence, reducing seasonal electricity shortages, particularly during the winter period, easing the load on the national power system,

and ensuring reliable and sustainable electricity supply for the population and the national economy.

Under the project, the investor commits to completing the design, construction, and commissioning of the solar power plants within 2026.

The total investment volume amounts to USD 250 million.

This project represents a significant step by Tajikistan toward green energy, a sustainable economy, and an environmentally clean future, while laying a solid foundation for achieving long-term energy independence.
